    下面是今天收到的“加州美国大学”的律师寄来的信。信中称我在“我的”
格林威治论坛张贴的一篇文章中声称“加州美国大学”是没有经过合法登记注册
的大学，我将“加州美国大学”称为克莱登大学是不实的，构成诽谤。信中称
“美国加州大学”的学士和硕士课程是经过加州政府“私营继续教育和职业教育
局”批准的，美国移民局同意其发I20，被中国驻洛杉矶领事馆承认的。要求我
撤下文章、公开更正并发表上述信息、道歉，否则将控告我诽谤和索赔云。我的
答复如下：

一、我并不拥有格林威治论坛。事实上，这是我第一次听说这个论坛。我从未访
问过那个论坛，更没有在那里张贴。我不知道我的文章是如何被张贴在那里以及
是否被做过改动。对此我不能承担任何责任。

二、我的确在《追踪“美国教育文化基金会”和“联合国世界人民委员会”》一
文中提到“加州美国大学”，并称之为克莱登大学。但是我在文中并没有说他们
没有经过合法登记注册。事实上，在前面《美国“克莱登”大学入侵中国》等文
章中我都指出，在美国办学、结社完全自由，这些克莱登大学在法律上都是合法
的。把他们称为克莱登大学是因为他们没有经过美国教育部认可的认证机构的认
证。既然我从未说过“加州美国大学”没有经过合法注册，既然没有任何资料表
明“加州美国大学”是一所经过认证的大学，我没有感到需要撤销或更改我的文
章的必要。

三、我想提醒“加州美国大学/常春藤大学”，当常春藤大学在2000年在中国办MBA
班时，招生广告声称：“在全球二十多个国家和地区设有分校或教学中心。学校
教授均来自斯坦福、宾州、加州等名校，毕业学生多为商界巨子、企业精英或政
府要员。”我相信任何美国法庭都会认定这是不实广告。（按：该律师事务所的
来函第一稿中注明“加州美国大学即常春藤大学”。在接到我的提醒后，在第二
稿中删掉了“常春藤大学”字样。下面根据其要求登出第二稿。）

"Re: California American University v. New Threads Chinese

Dear Mr. Fang:

        I represent the interests of California American University.

        Attached hereto is a counterpart of your Greenwich Forum web page 
dated on or about February 04, 2002.  The article wrongfully and incorrectly 
states that my client is not a properly licensed university.  The reference 
that it is a "Claydon" style university implies that my clients have engaged 
in fraud.  

        We regard the above statements to be untrue, libelous and defamatory, 
and will cause my client to suffer severe economic harm.

        The true facts are: (1) California American University is approved to 
provide Bachelor and Master Degree Programs by the Bureau for Private 
Postsecondary and Vocational Education, Certificate Number 1924741, in 
accordance with California Education Codes(s) 94900 and 94915; (2) California 
American University is approved by the United States Immigration and 
Naturalization Service to issue Form I-20 and therefore, recruit 
international students, a true and correct copy of this document is attached 
as Exhibit "1"; and (3) California American University is recognized by the 
Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles as an institution of university level study, 
a true and correct copy of this certification is attached as Exhibit "2." 

        We hereby demand that you immediately (1) retract the above article, 
(2)  publish a public correction notice stating that the original article was 
thoroughly incorrect, and; (3) provide a statement of apology to California 
American University. Unless you comply immediately we will have no choice 
except to proceed accordingly, and seek all legal remedies available to us.
